Session Time: 40 mins
Distance Covered: 2.5 miles
Total Time: 1 Hour
Total Distance Covered: 4.1 miles
Good news – Start of the week, I have new shoes (which lets face it always makes me happy…even if they’re not pink), new running gear (most of which IS pink) and a good stock of scholl blister plasters (already a part of my ‘party session’ essentials kit!)
Bad News – No excuses any more!
So my training buddy and I jumped out of bed at 6:30am (OK, jumped may be overstating it a little…), pulled on the new training gear and hit the streets…
I’ll be honest.
It was dark, it was cold, and I didn’t have my iPod having left it at the pub the night before (when teaching salsa, not drinking…before anyone says anything!)
It was a little bit of a struggle to get going – but after my first little jog down to the bus stop (after I’d finished panting like an over enthusiastic Labrador) I was really glad to be out.
More importantly it was reminding myself that I’m not running because I have to, I’m running because I CAN 🙂
For the first party session we did stick to mainly walking fast with a few little jogs in between, but then as I’ve said before I know that I need to build up slowly and not to push myself too far too fast.
Without the music to set the ‘fun’ tone for the session, we reverted instead to the telling of very bad jokes as we walked / jogged / lolloped (sidebar…I’m LOVING the word lolloped at the moment, it very accurately describes the mental image that I have of how I must look to other people while I’m out on my party sessions) along. Luckily for me having spent the last 31 years in the company of one of the best bad joke tellers I know (thanks Dad!) and the last year living with someone who comes a very close second in the rankings (thanks Matt!) I was well prepared, and my training buddy is also well-versed in the dodgy-humour stakes, so all was well.
Joke of the day: Polar bear walks into a pub, goes up to the bar and says “I’ll have a………………………………..pint please”. Barman says “Sure, but why the big pause(paws)?”
Yes…that was the level.
Yes…it got worse.
We found a fancy dress shop that we didn’t know was there, which prompted quote of the day: “What did we need fancy dress for?”, “Er…the marathon that we’re out here training for?!”
I have to say that Tony and Joe are already coming into their own (for those of you who have no clue who I’m talking about – see here: Meet the Boys). When I had a couple of moments where my mind wandered briefly into the zone of “what on earth were you thinking….crazy girl!”, I reminded myself of my two extra running buddies, pictured them running alongside me and my training buddy and it really did give me an extra boost of motivation!
You can call me crazy, call me bonkers, call me Princess Consuela for all I care – if it’s working, I’m sticking with it! 🙂
So after 40 minutes we were another 2.5 miles nearer to our goal.
Happy Dance Danced. Happy Claire Home. Another step closer.
