February 18th 2011…..Ouch.

In every sense of the word.

Today was very much the party session after the night before.

So last night was the first meetup for the Guildford Girls and Farnborough females (for those of you who have no idea what I’m referring to, see here: http://www.meetup.com/Guildford-Girls-and-Farnborough-Females/) Great night, great girls, great wine…just more than should be indulged the night before a party session.

I mean I’m not suggesting abstinence from all alcoholic fun (far from it), but maybe a little temperance could come in handy.

So when the alarm went off, I arose from a very deep slumber some what fuzzy around the edges and began getting ready for the party session. A couple of pints of water later, I was feeling ok and ready to rock (well probably more ready to roll, but you get the idea).

Then we hit the streets.

For the first time since this process began my body seems to have realised that it is involved in a new experience – and boy did it let me know about it!

Up to now, breathing debacles and minor-league twinges aside, my body has been coping pretty well and just getting on with it.

But today my knees finally worked out what was going on and responded by sending me the physical equivalent of “What on earth do you think you’re doing?!” with a bonus “stop it immediately!” to follow up.

So the combination of general fuzziness, very vocal knee joints and a training buddy who was a bit knackered from a late night work session meant that we decided today to go for the slightly shorter route.

After all if I’ve made a resolution to listen to those who know best about this running lark, my guess is that my own knees should probably rank high on that list!

Happy dance danced, head significantly less fuzzy and knees a little more achy…the fun continues…
